Help Your Community - Featured Organization

Each month we post a wish list for a different organization in town. It is our hope that people in the community who see this list might be able to help meet these needs in some way. If you have a wish list you would like posted, please contact us . If everyone gives just a little, together we can make a big difference.

 OUR STORY

Estrella Youth Sports (EYS) came to life in November of 2006 as a way for a few kids in Estrella Mountain Ranch to get together and play a little baseball as well as shoot a few baskets.

As word began to spread throughout our wonderful community, EYS took on a life of its own! We began our first session in December of 2006 with 159 children from the ages of Pre-K to 4th grade. Our first session included four separate baseball camps on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays as well as a basketball league that included 14 full teams! The basketball league practiced on Tuesdays and Thursdays with all of the games played on Saturdays at Westar Gym. The gym (and all of the practices) was a site to see! We had tremendous parental participation at the practices and camps, BUT, the Saturday games were incredible! The gym was PACKED every weekend for the games and the enthusiasm was unbelievable!! It was really awesome over the holidays when many families had visitors in to watch the games!

We are now providing opportunities for children from the ages of Pre-K to 6th grade. Our current session includes soccer, baseball, basketball and we have just added a 2 week cheerleading camp.

Estrella Youth Sports would especially like to recognize the Principal of Westar Elementary School, Mrs. Roer, the Principal of Estrella Elementary School, Mr. Bogart, the Liberty School District and all of the parents and neighbors that participated in the first session of EYS. We truly exist to support the children of EMR, the City of Goodyear and the surrounding areas based on our unwavering mission statement:

“Estrella Youth Sports supports the community and encourages our children to become positive role models through participation in youth sports.”

A special thanks to the Arizona Diamondbacks who have generously donated the addition of brand new baseball fields for the youth of the Estrella area to play on!
